"And who has been listening to Harmonia and Tangerine Dream? "
Cloudland Canyon – Silver Tongued Sisyphus
Woah, what’s this? An elegant, restrained cover reminiscent of the old Virgin label logo (you know, the one with the two teenage girls sitting back to back) containing an LP of two tracks that took two years to create and produce must contain some serious magic vibes. And who has been listening to Harmonia and Tangerine Dream? Dambala starts off like the glowering opening minute or so on T-Dream’s Atem, before morphing into a Rodelius-style piano riff that plays off a shimmering synthesizer harmony. Silver Tongued Sisyphus is spacier still. At times it reminded me of the more trippy elements of Walter Wegmuller’s mighty LP, Tarot before a wash of dry synth and a strident drum fill take this track in high Faust territory. Given that the LP was partly recorded in Hamburg, I will guess that Cloudland Canyon knew precisely what they were doing here.
Apparently they’ve a new LP out early this year (2008) I can’t bloody wait.
