Ah the Weddoes! Faux-camp, (Yoksheer style), honest endeavour, tremendous rhythm guitar work outs and Dave Gedge’s ever so slightly menacing growl keeping the cockles of your heart warm. For old gits like me this is an especial treat; pre George Best gigs from the Continent? Bloody hell, it’s the stuff of dreams. There’s the usual sprinkling of C86 faves, (how could anyone forget their take on Felicity? Or the fabulous This Boy Can Wait?), and surprises (the rugged deconstruction of Its Not Unusual is really something else).

There’s a noticeable improvement in the second gig on here, recorded In Munich late in ’87, with blistering versions of Anyone Can Make a Mistake and Everyone Thinks He Looks Daft. And great, stumbling, rambling conversations with the audience. “Erm… Bayern Munich? Anyone? No? Oh. Okay then.” It’s as if the band knows that they are on the verge of something special. Well, they were.

Highly recommended for Young and Old alike.
