You know, I love Morr Music’s LP covers. Even if something’s not to my taste musically, I can’t help but be bowled over by the single minded vision shown by their artwork. It’s ultra-twee and childish but done with such aplomb it can’t help but bring a smile to your face each time you get a new CD from them. Seabear’s cover is no exception. It shows two birds sitting on a tree obviously emulating (or indeed a sample of) the fridge art genre as practised by four year olds. It encapsulates Seabear’s simple, heart-warming acoustic reveries very well too. I mean, a song called Libraries isn’t going to be the pagan wig out you were, in a fit of perversity, hoping for now is it?
Actually I shouldn’t sound too flippant. It’s a bloody good quiet pop record is this one. The Ghost That Carried Us Away is full of muted whisperings, uplifting chord progressions and tappety- tap drums. It has a flavour of Belle and Sebastian about it which should see sensitive types love this record.
