Yowsa! This is more like it! I do love a reductive slob fest, albeit in this case a short one, as sadly this LP clocks in at around the 30 minute mark… What more can I tell you? Well, there isn’t really much to say apart from the fact you should note it’s a brilliant, enervating LP, and apparently recorded live at the Opera Montreal (there is precious little info on the record sleeve and I’m damned if I’m hamming further information up on the net)

AS to the music; well, it’s fair to say you will hear drums thumped and bass slapped with a dizzying abandon. And the odd alien noise here and there. The bass sound sometimes has that fuzz-tone quality that mid-period Fall records traded in. It starts as it means to go on; Usaid is a magnificently bad tempered grumble never allowing a moment’s peace whereas Sure ups the tempo a smidgeon. This track is also about as close as Diebold get to a tune too. And it’s not that close… Baboum Kaka Chic is a magnificently baroque slab of noise, all strutting angles and ridiculous poises.

By (slight) contrast Cinq Six Is a determined, jerky plod, sounding for all the world like a family of bears driving to the supermarket. Last up, Listen to My Heartbeast is about as experimental as the LP gets, we begin with a slightly numbing, dissonant series of guitar wails before a slow drum beat brings us round, preparing us for the nervous clatter of the last 4 minutes or so. Hell, we even seem to get some guitar string abuse thrown in as a free gift.

It’s monumental, organic, and great fun. Go listen.
