Glorytellers – S/T

Apparently the lad behind this LP, Geoff Farina, contributes to Tape OP magazine, talking about tube amplifiers and contemporary guitar related technologies… (Well, that’s what it says on the sleeve notes). I didn’t know Farina’s previous bands, Karate, or Secret Stars, so you’ll have to bear with my fumbling attempts to describe this record.

The LP is from first to last a set of acoustic led stories, slightly abstract in feel, maybe a bit jazzy, harking back to a folk-minstrel tradition of sorts. The songs arrangements are clear and even sparse at times, beautifully propelled by the subtlest of drum fills. Now and again you get the odd Sun Ra moment, which suits me. Oh, and at times I was reminded of Red Crayola, though I don’t know why. I would tell you the song titles but as the bloody promo wouldn’t divulge them to my computer I can’t. No matter, its pretty stuff and worth being distracted by for sure.
