22-Pisterpikko – Well You Know Stuff Is Like We Yeah!

“As a whole, it’s quite a downbeat LP; more suited for a summer’s lazing around than air guitar heroics on behalf of the listener.”

Good stuff! Nice and uncomplicated blues-pop, melancholy at times, but always good value. Opening track Suburban Ladyland comes on like the Stones with its riffs straight from Let it Bleed. Some of the slower tracks are messy and at times slovenly, but don’t think I’m suggesting that that is a bad thing. Crazy Meat is a slab of almost Beefheartian pop whereas Lizard and the trippy Sky Girl are dreamy love songs of sorts.

Elsewhere, 22-Pistepirkko’s bluesy streak comes through nice and strong (try Angouleme 2036 or Zombie). As a whole, it’s quite a downbeat LP; more suited for a summer’s lazing around than air guitar heroics on behalf of the listener. There are some belters mind; the gangly, quietly psychedelic Refrain from the Refrain could be a Richard Strange track at times. Interesting.
