Now, I like this! Outside of the odd moment during the angry lament My Heart Won’t Rest, this seven song EP gallops along at a fair old lick. There are some very good punk-pop songs packed in here; Brighton Town noticeable for having a fabulous sing-along fade out.
It’s high octane stuff, with guitars set ear-bleedingly high in the mix, chords thrashed out with wilful abandon (especially on the demented Shoeboxes and Dance School), and a young lady on vocals (name of Penny Bayonet) who doesn’t half belt them out. In fact it’s been a long time since a female vocalist gave off such a ‘fuck you’ vibe. With her presentation veering between Ari Up & and strident karaoke opera, there’s no room for coyness of any sort.
