Trogons – Life At The Planetarium

(That feeling of) whacky pastoralism may very well be totally in thrall to Henry Cow but sod it; it’s all enormously appealing music after a couple of spins.  Well worth five minutes of your time.

Daft but loads of fun, and that’s how Incendiary likes it. The opener, Forge, is a queasy mix between White Rabbit and a military two-step and it all falls apart in a very enjoyable way. There’s a great Finger Mouse / Fuzzy Felt-style amateurism present throughout, but especially on Solo Amor, a track whose amateur dramatics allow me to reference lost 60’s aesthetes Green Pavane in a review for the first time ever. Elsewhere, Hemlock presents itself as a sort of mash between early Orange Juice and some of the more whacked out members of Amon Düül 1. And just like the OJ’s this EP is all a bit delirious, its glorious self-indulgence reaches its apogee with the chord and tempo changes on Fig 1. A Sow and her Piglet. That feeling of whacky pastoralism may very well be totally in thrall to Henry Cow but sod it; it’s all enormously appealing music after a couple of spins.  Well worth five minutes of your time.
