IndianRedLopez – Promixeus

Of course it’s nigh on impossible to listen to this in one go, from start to finish, but each remix has merit. Worth a listen for sure.

Four remixes of the same song as an EP, a folk song at that… a bit boring, surely? Luckily this is stomping stuff at times, especially the dLUDEd mix which has the high gloss of dance tracks from ’87-88; (it did bring back uncomfortable flashbacks of people wearing chinos and blue shirts in provincial discos, mind). The soft, soulful vocals of IndianRedLopez in an unfamiliar setting are grist to the mill on all the mixes, the lad has such a pliable voice it seems, a quality which allows each of the remixers to take noticeably different approaches. The Funky Transport one is dryer, more abstract, and trance-like; borne aloft on some dry synths and a subtle beat. Conry & Smith remix is another turn again, more upfront and jazzier and possessing some druggy twists whereas the Soulvent remix tries another tack entirely, slowing the voice down to a sludgy growl over a ghostly whispering backing.
