Beachwood Sparks - The Tarnished Gold

Sub Pop darlings return after an eleven year hiatus – or something like that. Should you care? Actually, yes, you should. The Tarnished Gold is a sun drenched, West-coast delight of an album. Throwing a great deal of love in the direction of the  Byrds and Gram Parsons the album is a summer treat of slide guitars, sweet vocal harmonies and the occasional, ever so slightly psychedelic, guitar jams. Megafaun have mined similar territory in recent years but there should be more than enough space in your collection for both bands. At times, Beachwood Sparks  venture into real Graham Nash territory (Tarnished Gold’s tune is every bit as sweet and saccharine as Our House) but they’re never too sweet for too long.

What they are good at is making relaxing, subtly addictive music.  So grab a loved one and a bottle of wine and head off to watch the sunset with this on your car stereo. It’s the kind of album clear, starry skies were made for.
