Has there ever been a point in your life when you’ve taken the needle off of your well worn copy of Animalism and thought, “You know, I wish The Animals had made more records” Well, if indeed this rather specific occurrence is something you’re familiar with then, in some kind of bizarre fashion, you’ve gotten your wish because, (and let’s forget all of the Eric Burdon stuff and the couple of reformations, shall we?) Allah-Las have done it for you.  Although it must be said that they’ve added a little surf guitar in on occasion too, so as to branch out their influences ever so slightly. If ever there was an album rooted in the mid 60’s it’s this one. This isn’t so much a revivalist take on the subject, it’s more like an archeological reproduction. It feels more like discovering a long lost collection of studio outtakes than a brand new band from Los Angeles.  But there we have it, a scuzzy, fuzzy, sleazy and reasonably entertaining collection of songs that sound just like the Animals playing surf music. And in my book, that’s a good thing. If that doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, however,  then I suggest you  go looking for something more forward-thinking instead. Like an 80’s revivalist band or something with keyboards and synthesisers (I might just do that – Richard).
