Mamuthones – More Alien than Aliens

Play More Alien than Aliens once and you’ll think I’m stark raving nuts and a massive lying bastard to boot. Play More Alien than Aliens more than three times, you’ll be out there.

A one-track EP, beat that! Well you can’t cos this is the mighty Mamuthones and this is a taster for work coming later in the year. More Alien Than Aliens is a fantastically over the top AND deliberately, outstandingly  underpowered slice of future/past ambience, looking to draw on as many ritual landscapes as possible with the aid of as few sounds as possible along the way. This sonic dichotomy is what gives the fluid, yet dry-sounding track its emotional power; moments of gloopy sub register sounds replace invocations and mysterious calls to prayer, almost in a linear “after you Claude” manner. Then we get total silence followed up by this reedy, never-ending riff that could be a furtive, Gong-meets-Ivor-Cutler-in-a-back-alley-synth-swap-deal. It’s that confident and comfortable in its own worldview.
