About :

An aspiring writer with a passion for magical realism and the Russian heavy-weights, Stephen has recently returned to his homeland in the north-east of England after doing his thing in Iraq (oh and some editing and writing). Previously captivated by the allure of the misty peaks, he has spent his time climbing and mountain biking, however, as he currently resides by the sea on Hartlepool’s historic headland, and as a fan of transitional zones, he currently spends his time walking along the beach waiting for a pea-green boat to whisk him away on a series of adventures he’ll never adequately explain or understand. Until the owl and the pussycat arrive he is preparing for this voyage of discovery through yoga, a strict vegan diet and stockpiling manuka honey. Despite being kicked out of recorder class at the vulnerable age of six, and having no discernable musical talent, he has taken up Djembe drumming to push his boundaries. So far he’s very happy with the experience and finds connecting with the primitive, fetishistic spirit within a rewarding experience (although this may not be true of the people sitting either side of him). A sybarite of great imagination, he has little ambition (other than being recognized as the living embodiment of visionary poet William Blake and dedicating his life to lotus eating) and he’ll be happy as long as he doesn’t shuffle off this mortal coil broken, bloodied and bound, kneeling on the side of a shallow grave he’s dug himself, stoically awaiting the inevitable. He believes that everyone should read The Master and Margarita by Bulgakov (as well as everything by Gogol and Dostoyevsky) and will fight anyone who disagrees. His greatest achievement – and he assumes that of your cravat sporting editor Richard, who joined him on that muddy field 20-years ago – is surviving a football match against a select group of Newcastle’s bouncers even though he was one of the few people present who had not dedicated a significant amount of their lives imbibing steroids and sucking on the air hose. He is a a fan of the Goombay Dance Band and awaits their second single with bated breath although, after nearly 30-years of silence, doubts are beginning to cloud his normally optimistic outlook.
