Aggi Doom – Bring Me the Head b/w Cakewalk

Yin and Yang. I like this record, and I think they have talent.

This is a funny and intriguing record from Glasgow’s Aggi Doom; the A side, Bring Me The Head is pretty menacing – “don’t play nice / don’t play dead” we are told and who are we to argue? I’m guessing but the singer wants to settle scores with a lady acquaintance. There’s something of those early Go Betweens singles in this too, in the way the song stops and starts over a stumbling, “glottal” bass line. Added to that we get some Pere Ubu-like squeals screeches in the background; and this is never a bad thing. The B side Cakewalk is a completely different matter, a love song and (therefore) softer and more seductive, with a dreamy, hazy air (must be those da-da-da vocal backing lines). It nevertheless rouses itself during the tailout. It needs a listen or two as the A-side is the more strident track. Yin and Yang. I like this record, and I think they have talent.
