Lesbians on Ecstasy – We Know You Know

The inside covers shows the band suitably presented in attire that does indeed allow no uncertainty as to the nature of their sexuality.

First things first. The cover is a belter, a fabulous pink gatefold affair with the odd psychedelic undertone (pyramids with eyes, that sort of thing). The inside covers shows the band suitably presented in attire that does indeed allow no uncertainty as to the nature of their sexuality. There’s also a cool pull out explaining the stance of the members of the band; suitably printed in pink.

As to the music, it’s actually good fun, its very inclusive, sensual and assertive stuff, set over some synth and octopad beat combinations. The opener Sisters in the Struggle is a very empathic affair, a dedication to lesbians everywhere. The music in general does veer towards robotic dance (what else can you do with an octopad?) very reminiscent of old Add N to X work outs; Sedition, and We Won’t Give it Back are good cases in point

There’s no hiding the Lesbian message with coyness, indeed why should this be an option? The points of view are never promoted in a strident or overbearing way, a good example is Victoria’s Secret, – some robotic vocals in a lo-fi setting – just discourses a very straight forward message about inter-sexual relations. There is a more reflective side too. Its Practically Freedom is almost a straight forward choral sing-song, Belle Stars style. Last track Mortified carries on this communal sing-along groove with a real camp fire ditty.

If you’re in the mood for some good clean party fun, I’d check this LP out.
