Waaagh, a new Modey Lemon LP! And one where the band really gets down and knocks out some hard, edgy, no-messing psych-rock. Far tougher and more determined in tone than Curious City, Season of Sweets has far more in common with the dumb-ass garage rock / proto metal of the Litter or the Troggs than their previous, slightly pastoral leanings. And for that I’m supremely grateful. On this evidence, the band has worked out what makes them tick.

In fact it’s a storming set; Become a Monk is a groove-athon par excellence whereas Ice Fields almost allies itself with the Groundhogs’ scuzzy vibe. Milk Moustache is a great freak out, using goodness only knows what pedals, but for me the stonking 10 minute teach-in of Live Like Kids is the winner. Coming on like something off Amon Duul’s When Yeti meets Yogi (the quiet bits at the beginning) the track soon works up a mid-tempo groove that gets pretty mantric. It could just go on and on if it chose to do.

A fabulous, riff-tastic offering. If you like spirited Rock n Roll, this is for you.
