FLC are somewhat of a one trick pony. To be fair to them, they make no bones about it and they’ve been trading on their laid back funky Goodfella chic since day one so these lounge lizards aren’t about to change now. Sadly, the opening track Mars makes you wish they were still busy in the courtroom with their ex-manager instead of the recording studio. It’s so bad it’s enough to make you want to put a bullet in the back of their heads but when the title track rolls around you’re back on familiar territory. If you’re in any way partial to the kind of musical martini the FLC tend to produce, then Classic Fantastic will taste pretty good and will wash down rather nicely. There are certainly worse ways to spend four and a half minutes of your life. El Malo is another classic FLC track, and probably the one track here that harks back to their early days. To be sure, the FLC will not affect your blood pressure. Their tempos tend to be more ‘chill’ than ‘thrill’ but it has to be said that they’ve embraced a more rocky, ugly guitar style on occasion here. However, it’s when they get funky that I feel they work best. Check out We, The Three for further details.
Ultimately, if you’ve never had any time for the FLC then there’s no reason for you to start making time now but there’s enough here to keep the rest of us amused for a while.
