A great, raucous rock and roll record, not a million miles away from stuff Dead Moon would bang out, blessed with two or three stand out tracks, such as the opener Widow of My Dreams; digging (and speeding up) the groove laid down by the Elevators’ Rollercoaster all those years ago. The follow up Pine On is a classic lost Stooges track, with that tremendous Williamson-style descending riff. Things don’t relent much, tempo-wise, throughout the 12 songs on this album, with. Perhaps, the exception of the slightly morose Sud (and that has moment of up-tempo bawling). Fake Kinkade continues the Stooges vibe and some, whereas Two Headed Coin is at times a country-fied jaunt (when it’s not being an angry renunciation about something or other). At times things stray into Gallon Drunk territory, (I Blame You) but that’s no bad thing.
It’s quite a groovy LP, despite the rock-isms (see Talking to the Dog and Light Sweet Crude) and it does have a no messin’ charm, especially with Milk Cow Blues. Just don’t expect anything out of the ordinary.
