The Millipedes are chock full of Sheffield-band goodness – there’s a Long Blonde here as well as members of other less celebrated but rather excellent bands.
Theirs is a surprisingly low camp tumble of 50/60s b-movie garage rock, fuzz-pop, bubblegum ballads and, erm, ska. A good old fashioned rock ‘n roll holler is backed up with thumping bass, spooky hammond and echoing guitar, the whole sounds oddly muted but in a way that serves to stop them outstaying their welcome. In fact it sounds especially good coming out of ropey speakers.
Given that you can (and frankly should) get it as a lovingly created black and white box of three 7" singles, I suspect it’s best heard on an old Dansette in the corner of a Anne Summers party. It’d certainly get arses shaking.
