There’s not really that much to say about this really, it’s three blokes performing acoustic renditions of Townes Van Zandt songs. One of them, Wino, sounds a bit like Mark Lanegan. The others don’t. They all perform the songs with the appropriate care and attention that most van Zandt fans would insist upon. In fact, they perform them pretty well and I’m sure they had a good time putting this together but honestly, if you’re not a fan of any of the artists involved, then why the hell should you be interested?
I still haven’t quite figured that out. Somehow, despite being a perfectly acceptable record, it all feels a bit pointless, which is a shame really. Just mark it down as “For Townes van Zandt fans only” and be done with it.
