The Beautiful New Born Children – Hey People!

(Domino/Munich)

A very quick review for a very short LP.

If you like your music up tempo and thrashy and throw away then this is our recommendation for the month. There’s not really a lot to say about the contents stylistically, apart from it is chocka with guitars drums and yelling, a souped up Small Faces sans organ sound, a drunken Saints. Still, it’s pretty good.

Do the Do is a sonic blast. Paper Mill has a MES-style stomp to it and charming to boot. A Good Dose is an up-tempo rampage that has something irreducibly silly about it whereas I Do Too is a strut not a million miles away from the Fall’s Mr Pharmacist.

Okay you get the picture. No point explaining what the rest of the record sounds like except to say that the last track, Up and Down and Round and Round dispenses with all the 1-2-3-4 disposability of its siblings by going on for a good 6 minutes and making a hell of a din in the process. It is the best track by far on the LP and leaves you wondering why more of the preceding tracks could not have been longer or more detailed. But maybe that would have been missing the point.
