Assasination Polka is a brilliant, brilliant opening to what turns out to be a very surprising album. Shuddering and thumping drums dominate, but the track is given it’s charm by a beautiful sax refrain and a twinkling children’s piano run. The lyrics seem concerned with assasination, or suicide, or screaming.
Modey Lemon – The Curious City
The music is great, I’m just disappointed that the words undermine the music at so many turns.
Brian Eno – Another Day on Earth
I think that given how great Eno’s first albums were it’s a shame that he was sidetracked by his ambient stuff.
Four Tet – Everything Ecstatic
This is definitely not tasteful ‘folktronica’ – it sounds more like gabba in a food processor.
Smog – A River Ain’t Too Much To Love
It doesn’t make any sense but it has an enjoyably eerie feel about it.
