It’s interesting to see the on-stage dynamics of the Duke Spirit. There seems to be an in-band acknowledgment that once they have got a collective sweat on, they improve as an act.

As was their wont the band once again had a problem with names – with no eye on the future they renamed their first classic album at the last minute from the genius of “Piss Off You Shitheads” to a load of coloured blocks.
“‘Some of these pieces are also rooted in linearly stretching or expanding something rhythmic as a basis for musical elaboration.’ Blimey, you might be forgiven for thinking. This might be awful, but it is unlikely to sound like a Roger Taylor solo album.”

There is no denying the fact that this kid has a huge amount of raw talent. This is actually exactly the kind of music that I love, referencing back to the 60’s – he is definitely appropriating a classic sound with out imitating to a “T”.
