Despite the bollocks written on this promo LP’s sleeve, and despite being compiled by a representative of the Forces of Darkness (Radio 1) this is a worthy compilation….

The Stills – Oceans will Rise
And the opening two tracks are a real switch off. They’re not growers, (I’ve listened to them more than enough times, I can assure you), no; they’re just bland.

Lucky Dragons – Dream Island Laughing Language
Don’t you wish you could, as fit justice, as a kind of human agent of a Supreme and Divine and Terrible Higher Being, indulge in ecstasies of tortuous punishments upon these four, for having the temerity to play such pretentious things and then proudly list them?

These Are Powers – Taro Tarot
It’s also a record that plays around pretty shamelessly with the basic tenets of the genre, what with all the stop-start moments and atonal noise. And thank fuck for that.

Why Aren’t You Listening? – The Godspunk compilations
Thank You For Being Insane Pervert Human Being – Try Getting A Hearing Aid On The N.H.S., Shithead (Sorry If This Is Printed Upside Down)
That’s by Satan The Jesus Infek’d Needles And Blood. And it sounds like five minutes of screaming bloody madness.

James Yorkston – When the Haar Rolls In
There’s an added richness and canniness to this LP that was only hinted at in previous releases; and a relaxed pace that suits his muse very well.
