I’m sure a million other reviewers will talk about the influence of Andy Weatherall’s production upon this… but there really is a startling bravura that was maybe not noticeable on Street Horrsing.

A magnificent LP. Truly, this has been a fine year for expansive, inclusive, interesting records and Tarot Sport is up there with the best of them. I’m sure a million other reviewers will talk about the influence of Andy Weatherall’s production upon this new ‘Buttons record, but there really is a startling bravura that was maybe not noticeable on Street Horrsing. From the almost poppy thud of the opener Surf Solar through magnificent proto-film scores like Olympians, there’s a feeling that the duo feels very comfortable with this new sonic space they find themselves in.
As usual with Fuck Buttons there is a sensuality in there music that can be overwhelming; their love of throwing sometimes discordant and challenging textures into a situation, (as seen in the searing, driving Flight of the Feathered Serpent), can be either enlivening or a minor head-fuck. Still, there’s also a touch of the grandeur and elegance in tracks like Rough Steez and Space Mountain that can be found with records like Harmonia’s Deluxe, or side two of Heroes.
This is a truly fine record and one you must investigate.
