Prophets & Kings – Prophets & Kings

We’ve mentioned elsewhere in this issue that if a band chooses to title an album eponymously, it means they want to be taken seriously.  That is fair enough but right here and now I would like Prophets & Kings to take us seriously for a minute. Please, for the love of (insert deity/supreme being of choice here) give yourselves a rest will you?

This album is absolutely all over the place but they probably meant it to be. They’re the kind of band that like to throw a number of ideas into each and every song. The only problem is, they haven’t figured out where the hell to stop. Listening to Prophets & Kings is akin to spending an hour listening to five radio stations and watching three television programs, at once, in the middle of a call center!

Honestly, if you’re not prepared this thing will give you a headache, which is a shame because there’s a lot of good stuff going on in here. The only thing is there’s a lot of nonsense going on too and I, for one, really can’t be bothered to unravel it for you. Honestly, it’s too tiring and far too schizophrenic for its own good. Is it a dance record? A collection of pop songs? Some electro rock? Honestly, it’s all of that, at once and more.

File under unclassifiable.
