The Sugarettes – Sugarettecity EP

You used to get stuff like this on Creation Records; this is a classic EP, four tracks, each a perfect pop song in it’s own right; exciting, funny, naïve and with enough charm to stop fights.

You used to get stuff like this on Creation Records; this is a classic EP, four tracks, each a perfect pop song in it’s own right; exciting, funny, naïve and with enough charm to stop fights. Claps is a killer opening, stripped back and menacing, only for the menace to dissolve in the warm rush of the guitar riff in the chorus. Bounce is classic indie pop, it’s like the Primitives (only miles better); the title says it all really… Little I Love is the token groovy number, all vocal harmonies and racing bass lines; the song doesn’t seem to have time to draw breath before it’s finished. Last up, My CoCo is a fabulous take on the Mary Chain’s quieter moments; tambourines are used in anger and with intent in this all too short ballad. It’s a must, whether you are feeling frivolous or not.
