Mos Generator – The Late Great Planet Earth

Mos Generator have created an epic sounding album reminding me of a cross between Metallica and days long gone when I used to wash my kitchen floor with the back door open and annoy the neighbours by playing Deep Purple in Rock very loudly.

Mos Generator – The Late Great Planet Earth

There are good and bad points about this album – the good part is that it’s good, but the bad part is, it’s been done too late….

However, at times the whole album meanders along and one track runs into another. After a while you begin to picture a darkened stage with a lone guitarist, whilst by around track 7, you wonder if the other band members had all gone out for a fag… The problem is its really all been done before, all this Eve of Destruction thing. Barry McGuire was doing it in the 60’s and although the message is good and important, it’s a dated one, and really this LP isn’t going to change anything, no matter how intense and deep thinking the band think they’re being. It’s all been done before – many times, and as just as good as this.

Oh, another thing; some of the lyrics made me cringe a bit; “the sky is falling”…oh come on guys, that’s Chicken Lickens line… I shouldn’t be too harsh, and as a non musician, it seemed okay – no worse than plenty I’ve heard, maybe mediocre is the best way to describe it. As for the LP’s message, of course I love it but maybe that’s just because I’m a boring old arsehole who hasn’t got over flower power yet. The best these guys can hope for is that there are some more like me who will be willing to part with money for it.

Sorry guys, nice but….hardly ground breaking stuff…
