Every man should have a shed. I think it’s one of the biggest failings of city life and, ultimately, is the reason why Incendiary plonked itself outside Amsterdam and took up residence in one. You see, great things happen in sheds. Things are invented in sheds. Apparently, the animators at Pixar all have their own little sheds inside the office building, and that’s just cool! The shed is the realm of the inventor, the spiritual home of all mad scientists everywhere (Sensible ones stick to the laboratory) and the heavenly corner of the world where home brew kits can bring liquid delights to the lips of English allotment holders.

Pattern Is Movement would like to have a shed I’m sure. That is, if they don’t already have one. However, All Together does not sound like something that was created in a shed but rather the sound of somebody making something in a shed. It doesn’t matter what song you pick, the percussion bangs, clatters and hammers its way through. Drums splash, crash, bong and titter tat in such a joyful manner that you can imagine whoever’s hitting them is getting immense pleasure out of it. The vocals rest somewhere between the sound of a couple of men basking in pleasure and a couple of men who’ve just bashed their thumbs with a hammer. There’s a range of other instruments, appearing at different points, but all sounding like they’re being forced into a position as opposed to anything sounding natural and organic. I’m not entirely sure of what it all means – apparently it was inspired by a series of photographs from the early 20th century – but I’m not entirely sure if I want to either.

All I know is, whatever they’re putting together in that shed, it sounds cool as fuck.
