A mini LP or a long EP; take your pick. Whatever the format it’s catchy stuff and well worth hunting down. The keyboards are playful and the style of this record ain’t a million miles away from Rarified Ectoplasm-era Stereolab. Sill that’s no bad thing, because the Projects can write a quirky alternative pop tune and outside of CSS, and that skill has been a bit thin on the ground recently. Voice is Glue has a pleasant automaton feel to it whereas Accidents Will Happen (remixed by Broadcast) decides that Can’s Mother Sky bass-line is the line to hang a tune on. Dream Machine sets about its task of entertaining us with snappy purpose, whereas New Fun (great title) plays off the deadpan vocals with a joint keyboard/guitar flourish. It’s a fabbo pop song. Unknown Things is a dolorous, stripped-back number, but not without charm, especially in the chorus, (and it has that Mother Sky bass-line irrigating it again I hear…) Finally we get another mix of Accidents Will Happen (this time mixed by Simon Break) which is more robotic than the Broadcast arrangement.

Good stuff. Worth checking out.
