This is a good listen kids; its arty, eclectic, punky dance music. It’s also a bit daft, but there again dance music should be a bit daft. Opener Pontiac has the most infuriating jiggly melody, akin to that bloody flute on Kraftwerk’s Ruckzuck. I’m not sure of the instrument used to create said melody, doubtless something African and impossible to spell, let alone pronounce…

Problems is a great follow up; a slobby work out, an old keep fit video soundtrack slowly grinding to a halt in your machine. A lot of the tracks on this LP boast a distinct, “high eighties” gloss especially noticeable in the drum samples; and there’s also a lot of noodling going on (Kottbusser Torr, Teardrops) which reminds me of David Byrne’s early solo stuff. Once or twice we get a barmy pop song – Those Birds are Bats is a good example – or a loony sing-along very much in the style of Money Mark – and Wipe Out will suffice as an example here. Still, it’s all fun stuff and adds a bit of breadth to the album as a whole.

An invigorating listen.
