A top, top LP; nodding to rave culture, Brian Wilson and Scritti Politti in equal measure. This is a set of ethereal moods and snatched moments, akin to hearing a pop song you like fleetingly in the street. Only Hope and Days (you’ll recognise the riff) have an MBV slacker feel to it (there’s a lot that feels that it’s drawing on the feelings and of the Rave Scene/Scene that Celebrates Itself generation).
There are lots of very short tracks, which rely on a pattering drum machine and reedy, ethereal synth murmurings, and that gives a Cluster vibe to tracks like Porcelain and the brilliant Raimondo and a Scritti Politti feel to stuff like Man Overboard, The Holy See and Royal Gold.
