Skipper EP

It might be looking firmly at 1967, but it’s still great.

We’re not one to review EPs but this needs your attention. It’s insane, it pisses about between genres and it has ‘fun’ stamped all over it. There’s a noticeable flavour of Beck and Brian Wilson. In some ways it’s bloody smug with its clever phrasing and judicious weight of sound (not to little, not too much). But hell, if the chorus of Wrong Man, Wrong Place doesn’t get you, take up gardening or something. The other two tracks are similarly great: Wasted nicks the piano sound from See Emily Play and segues it into a lost Beach Boys track off Summer Days (and Summer Nights!!). Noordeloos employs backwards sounds and ghostly effects to create a very woozy track indeed.
