Years in the making, Polygon:08 is a collection of sparse, minimalist piano instrumentals. Recorded over an 8 year period, the tracks are a series of repeated patterns and motifs, often floating within cavernous, aural spaces. Essentially the album (all 28 tracks of it) feels like the soundtrack to the ind of film where people sit around in council houses crying a lot. It’s bleak, cold and at times unwelcoming but it does create quite an atmosphere. There’s not much variation in theme and it’ll test your patience if you try to listen to all 28 tracks in one sitting. This is mainly due to the fact that most tracks seem to stop before they ever really get going and eventually you just wish some of them would hang around for another few minutes so that you could actually make your mind up as to whether you like them or not.
Polygon:08 is, in the end, a frustrating album to listen to. It feels like an album that poses twenty eight questions but can’t really be bothered to answer any of them. Therefore I can’t be bothered to make up my mind about it one way or the other. It just is what it is.
